Keeping children safe is a priority at Ethos College, part of the Ethos Academy Trust. Everyone working for the Academy shares an objective to help keep children and young people safe by contributing to providing a safe environment for children and young people to learn and develop in our school setting. Pupils achieve when they feel secure and the professionals around them exhibit consistency. By identifying children and young people who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, and taking appropriate action, the aim is to make sure they are kept safe both at home and in our school setting. Ethos College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all of its pupils.
Each pupil’s welfare is of paramount importance. We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable to abuse. We recognise that children who are abused or neglected may find it difficult to develop a sense of self-worth and to view the world in a positive way. Whilst at school, behaviour may be challenging. We recognise that they may exhibit concerning behaviours, and at times this may impact other children either directly or indirectly. We will always take a considered and sensitive approach in order that we can support all of our pupils.
As a school, we encourage parents, families, carers and young people to share all concerns or worries that may affect their safety and wellbeing. It is important to us that parents, families, carers and students see our school as a safe place, and we encourage joint working to ensure we are working together towards the best outcome for young people. Ethos College provides opportunities to do this, through the Nurture curriculum, key worker support, smaller class sizes and numerous occasions when families are invited into Ethos to celebrate success.
We have a variety of policies designed to help keep your child safe in school. These include a robust Safeguarding Policy, a Positive Behaviour Policy and an Attendance Policy.
These policies are available on request and are on the Ethos College website. The main aims of the policies are as follows:
- To provide a safe environment for young people to learn and develop and to identify those who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm with the aim of making sure they are kept safe, both at home and in the school setting.
- To create a positive and respectful atmosphere in which each member of the school community can perform and contribute in a positive and secure environment.
- To promote high levels of attendance, improve punctuality and, as a consequence, raise levels of achievement.
