A high-quality computing education based on the KS3 National Curriculum equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. At Ethos College pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.

Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

Nurture Film

Film Studies is for those pupils who not only love watching films but also want to explore how they are made and the techniques used to create blockbuster movies through to smaller budget independent films. Pupils will be encouraged to explore the history of film from the Golden Age of cinema through to modern times, and analyse how genre, technology and stereotypes have altered through time.

Nurture pupils have the option of sitting Film Studies as a GCSE subject if they wish.

As well as two written examinations focussing on the 6 films pupils will study, there is also a creative element in the controlled assessment, which will allow pupils to create storyboards and advertising materials for their own film creation.

The course is comprised of 70% examination and 30% controlled assessment. Students can achieve a Grade 1-9.
